This Cookie Policy explains how Universal Reason Inc. ("VisaBook," "we," "us," "our"), 75 E 3rd St, Sheridan, WY 82801, uses cookies and similar technologies on visabook.co and related services (the "Service"). It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy.
VisaBook uses cookies and local storage for necessary account and security functions, and uses optional PostHog product analytics only after you choose Allow analytics in our cookie banner.
Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They let a site remember information about your visit, like whether you're logged in, or which referral link brought you here.
We keep this deliberately minimal. VisaBook does not use cookies for third-party advertising or retargeting, and we do not sell data collected via cookies or local storage.
| Cookie type | Purpose | Duration | Can it be disabled? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Authentication / session | Keeps you logged in, remembers your session state (via OpenAuth) | Session, or until you log out / it expires | No — required for the Service to function. Disabling this means you can't stay logged in. |
| Referral attribution (`vb_ref`) | Records which VisaBook Affiliate referred you, if you arrived via an affiliate link, so commissions are attributed correctly | 365 days | Yes — disabling it just means an affiliate referral (if any) won't be credited; it doesn't affect your use of the Service |
| CSRF / security tokens | Protects against cross-site request forgery and similar attacks | Session | No — required for account security |
| First-party analytics (VisaBook) | Counts page views and in-app navigations and estimates time on site, bounce rate, country of origin, and traffic sources | Server-side analytics log plus a temporary tab-scoped session identifier in session storage; no persistent browser identifier | Yes — browser privacy controls, Do Not Track, or by contacting us |
| Product analytics (PostHog) | Helps us understand page views, clicks, and feature usage so we can improve VisaBook; not used for advertising or retargeting | Until you withdraw consent or clear browser storage, subject to PostHog settings | Yes — choose Only necessary or review your cookie choices below |
PostHog is our product analytics provider. When enabled, VisaBook sends page views, clicks, feature usage, and session identifiers to PostHog. PostHog may store a pseudonymous analytics identifier in cookies or local storage. For signed-in users, VisaBook sends the account ID and email as person properties so usage can be understood across sessions. We do not use PostHog for advertising, retargeting, or the sale of personal information, and we do not intentionally send documents or sensitive profile fields as custom analytics properties.
PostHog is configured on its EU Cloud service. PostHog analytics is not initialized and no PostHog analytics identifier is created by VisaBook before you opt in.
VisaBook also operates limited first-party analytics without cookies or persistent local storage. We generate a temporary tab-scoped session identifier in session storage to count page views and navigations and estimate time on site and bounce rate. It is discarded when the tab's session storage is cleared or the tab is closed. If you sign up or sign in, the current tab session may be linked to your account so we can show the page you arrived on and the pages visited in that signup session. The server derives country of origin from Cloudflare request metadata and stores only a daily-rotating HMAC IP signature for repeat-visitor measurement; we do not store the raw IP address.
When you subscribe to Plus, Stripe (our payment processor) may set its own cookies as part of Stripe Checkout or the Stripe Customer Portal, governed by Stripe's own privacy and cookie practices, not ours. See Stripe's privacy policy for details.
On your first visit, our small cookie banner offers Allow analytics and Only necessary. Choosing Only necessary keeps PostHog disabled. The banner controls PostHog only; the limited first-party analytics described above does not set cookies or local storage. Your choice is stored locally in your browser so we can remember it. If you are signed in, VisaBook also records the choice against your profile as `product_analytics`, including whether it was granted or declined, the time of the choice, and the disclosed recipient (PostHog EU Cloud).
You can change your optional analytics choice at any time using Review cookie choices below or by clearing this site's local storage and revisiting the Service. Withdrawing consent stops new PostHog capture and resets the current PostHog identification. Most browsers also let you block or delete cookies through their settings. Authentication and security cookies are required for core account features. Blocking the referral-attribution cookie only affects whether an affiliate gets credited.
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time, reflected by a new "Last updated" date above.
